Find out what it is really like to work for us...
Q: What were you doing before you joined Watts and how long have you been with the firm?
A: In my previous job, I worked as a secretary to a Partner in a Chartered Surveying firm based in Luton. I joined Watts in August 2005.
Q: Why did you decide to join Watts?
A: I moved from Luton to Richmond and the commute back to Luton
was too much, so I had to change jobs as well. I decided I wanted
to stay within the surveying industry as I like to be busy and
the admin work within this industry certainly keeps you busy.
I had a few interviews for other companies but decided from researching
Watts before my interview that I wanted to work here. What appealed
to me when I researched the company was the fact that they were
a large organisation looking to grow in the future. When I attended
the interview it just re-confirmed my desire to work here, as
they had a friendly and approachable interview style even if
I did see five people - Laura Strachan, Maggie Laurie and Jane
Marr for the first half and then Rebecca Jermy for the second
half. They explained everything in detail and told me about the
social aspect of working for Watts.
Q: What kind of projects are you currently involved in? What has been your most interesting job to-date?
A: At the moment the biggest project that I am involved in, is the start-up of Watts’ new office in the Netherlands. The biggest project that I have been involved in before, was a 49- property portfolio, which was nationwide and involved not only our surveyors in most of the regional offices, but M&E consultants and environmental consultants. It ran over a six week period and I arranged all access, coordinated all reports being received by the London office and sent them out to the client.
Q: How has your career progressed since joining Watts? Where do you see it going?
A: Since joining Watts I have progressed well within the company. I have moved teams, have had a vast range of experiences, and seen the company grow substantially. My career will be progressing further within the new Netherlands office, as it is a blank canvas that I can work within.
Q: How would you describe the social side of your team?
A: Although it is still new, I feel that we have a great team out here in the Netherlands. The social side of things is great - we have office drinks on a Friday afternoon, and have a few other events in the pipeline.
Q: Do you have any advice for people wanting to join Watts?
A: My advice is to work hard and enjoy the social life - they go hand in hand. Watts is a good company to work for, so if you get the opportunity take it.
