South Camden Community School
London

Client:
London Borough of Camden (Children, Schools & Families Directorate)
Consultant:
Watts Group PLC
Service:
Contract Administration and Compliance, and Health and Safety
Project Cost:
£50,000

Watts was appointed to provide design and specification, contract administration and CDM coordination services for South Camden Community School. The roofing project to the 1960s main hall building, comprised making good any substantially defective areas of the existing roof covering, providing a hot applied single-layer roofing felt and installing a guided horizontal fall restraint-cable system. Watts acted as lead consultant, CDM coordinator and contract administrator on this project.

Watts’ brief was to install a single layer roof overlay membrane on top of the existing defective roof covering, to reinstate the roof’s water tightness for a guaranteed period of ten years. Watts was also commissioned to install a fall arrest system to facilitate future maintenance works.

A ten year guarantee period was requested as it is likely that the school will be subject to substantial refurbishment under the Government's ‘Building Schools for the Future’ scheme.
