Watts was appointed to provide design and contract administration services for re-roofing and sustainability works at Torriano Junior School in the London Borough of Camden. Torriano is an attractive, turn-of-the-century Victorian building located in Kentish Town. The building had a mixture of double-pitched clay tiled roofs with a central valley gutter, and a lead-covered crown shaped roof with flat roofs to either side. The project comprised removing the double-pitched plain clay tile roof, recycling the existing tiles and replacing them with new clay tiles.
Watts’ brief was to:
re-roof the main roof and re-cover the side flat roofs; investigate and implement sustainability improvements; excavate and install a rainwater harvesting tank; adapt the rainwater downpipes to collect rainwater for flushing WCs; and install a small bank of solar panels to generate hot water. Watts also re-covered the flat roof areas and central valley gutter with a Liquid Plastic Limited 'Decothane Delta 25' cold applied waterproof coating.
