Centre Court Shopping Centre, Wimbledon

Client:
Standard Life
Consultant:
Watts
Service:
Project and Development Monitoring
Project Cost:
50 million

Watts provided development monitoring services for the Centre Court Shopping Centre. The service included: the appraisal of the building?s design; liaison with the building designers, regarding the acceptability of design solutions to an institutional investor; and the monitoring of the works on site, to ensure that  quality design was achieved during construction.

The Centre Court scheme involved new build and the retention of listed facades. The original Wimbledon Town Hall was converted to provide 21 units of speciality shopping with office accomodation. Watts carefully considered the refurbishment proposals for the retained facades in order to ensure they corresponded with the new build elements. Construction began in the summer of 1990 with the centre opening in September 1992.

The shopping centre provides 30,000 sq m of retail space on two principal levels; a two level 760 space car park; and includes major tenants such as Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and Boots.
