Freemans Call Centre,
Sheffield

Client:
Great Portland Estates
Consultant:
Watts
Service:
Project and Development Monitoring and Neighbourly Matters
Project Cost:
£4.5 million

Freemans Call Centre, in Sheffield, was developed
as a state-of-the-art call centre for the mail order catalogue company. The facility was constructed after remediation on a former heavily developed industrial site in Sheffield, which was associated with the steel industry. Watts acted
as monitoring surveyor under the terms of a funding agreement for Great Portland Estates.

Once completed, the Call Centre included provisions for 24-hour operation. It also provided facilities for staff such as a swimming pool and gym, recreation rooms and a coffee shop. Crche facilities were also included and were linked to a large open plan call area and mezzanine.

The building footprint was specifically designed around a large internal and external water feature, which ultimately became an environment for a family of resident water birds.
