Watts was appointed to advise on accessibility issues at Hereford Racecourse, in light of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, and the extra requirements coming into effect in October 2004.  The client used our detailed report to create a specification of upgrades and improvements, which they then sought to implement on a phased basis.

Watts carried out a detailed audit of the racecourse and gained an understanding of how the occupier interfaces with the public and other visitors. An access strategy was developed which suggested changes in the way services are provided as well as physical alterations to buildings and grandstands. 

The racecourse contains many buildings, including bars, restaurants, grandstands, hospitality boxes, administration offices and car parks. It is also used for various events such as exhibitions, private parties, meetings and training sessions. All these areas were assessed in terms of their accessibility.
