Mission House
St Joseph’s Convent, Lucan, Dublin

Client:
Presentation Sisters
Consultant:
Watts
Service:
Building Pathology

Watts was appointed by the client to investigate concerns regarding the general condition of the structure and fabric of Mission House. An inspection revealed further defects throughout the property due to lack of ongoing maintenance, including the failure of steel roof beams. Remedial works were carried out and a planned preventative maintenance, schedule was prepared to assist the client in estimating the costs required on a yearly basis.

The initial client brief was to investigate the source of damp penetration within the building. Upon investigation on site, this brief was extended to further site inspections and contract administration of several repair projects. Works included obtaining grant funding site drainage, repairs to the external envelope of the building, and roof repairs to this protected structure.

As the building is a protected structure, a conservation officer was involved at all stages to advise on workmanship, materials and planning restraints. A conservation grant was applied for and successfully assisted the client in paying for works.
