Whitefriars Wharf, Tonbridge, Kent

Client:
Gleeson City Living
Consultant:
Watts
Service:
Cost Consultancy, Employer's Agent and Project Management
Project Cost:
£7 million

The Whitefriars Wharf residential development was occupied by buildings before the project began. It now comprises a total of 100 units on that area of the site. Watts acted as project managers to the development which comprises a four-storey building consisting entirely of flats and apartments. The central access road is framed by the built development and there are 86 basement car parking spaces, a communal green space and amenity areas.

Watts' involvement with the project commenced some months into the development, after a change in personnel within the client team and the appointment of a new contractor. This concluded in an intensive period of re-mobilisation and evaluation. The traditional design style was achieved by attention to detailing, window and door proportions, the use of material, and the size and shape of the blocks themselves.

The design concept of the development is based on historic built forms and their contextual relationship with the river. This replicates the scale and character of traditional Victorian riverside warehouses.
