Allen Gilham's career has encompassed both private practice and
local government (Greater London Council and London Boroughs of
Tower Hamlets and Bromley). He is a building surveyor and town
planner with 35-years experience as a specialist historic
buildings surveyor and conservation planner in condition surveys
and appraisals and advising on the care, repair, restoration,
building diagnostics defects analysis and expert witness work
and the economic re-use of historic buildings, historic areas,
historic parks and gardens.
Allen has also successfully undertaken the role of project
manager on heritage and conservation projects of up to £11 million
in value. He has extensive experience with the private sector and
in working with both local authorities and charitable/non profit
making organisations in the heritage and arts sectors.
Allen is a consultant lecturer to both the University of Westminster
on building conservation and economic re-use of heritage and arts
structures and the University of Greenwich on master degrees in heritage
restoration, development and management and museum, arts and cultural
tourism management.
