John Watson is a chartered building surveyor and joined Watts
in September 2005. He is a Director for Watts’ Madrid Office. John is a property and
construction professional with 16 years overall experience, 13 of which have been working
in Spain. He was the first chartered surveyor to have validated his chartered surveyor
qualification to an Arquitecto Tecnico in Spain.
John is skilled in consultancy, where he has gained considerable experience advising
Blue Chip companies on the purchase of buildings, live projects or acting as project
manager. He has held the post of operations director, being responsible for his own
department, where he surpassed in generating an income from personal contacts and meeting
company targets. John also has a firm grasp of project and construction management
principles in all phases of the development process.
John has a considerable amount of experience in carrying out due diligence exercises
on a multitude of projects, whilst understanding the issues and potential risks when
acquiring land or property. He also has a clear understanding of the administrative
process in obtaining local authority and regional authority licences in Spain and is able
to communicate these processes clearly to Anglo-Saxon clients. John understands how to
report clearly and how to convey the commercial impact of technical issues to
non-technical people.
