Playground Amenity Facilities, Belfast Castle
Client: Belfast City Council
Office: Belfast
This "new build" project involved Watts executing the role of lead design consultant to provide a permanent modern building to accommodate public toilet facilities, an office for the supervisory staff and a point of control at the entrance to the adventure playground. Situated in the hills overlooking Belfast, the site presented challenges due to its topography and forestation.
In addition to the survey and design work Watts managed the project team assembled by the client, from inception to completion. The brief was to provide a modern facility to accommodate the needs of visitors and to enable council staff to supervise and control access to the playground. Crucially the design had to blend into its forested environment and meet the council's stringent sustainability targets.
