Watts is committed to creating an environment that truly values the differences in people and therefore to equality of opportunity in all its employment practices, policies and procedures. No employee or potential employee will therefore receive less favourable treatment due to their race, creed, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, age, religion or similar belief, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, connections with a national minority, birth or other status, family connections, membership or non membership of a trade union or disability.

The Human Resources department are responsible for monitoring the Equal Opportunities Policy and for ensuring that the organisation’s employment policies comply with legislation for the elimination of discrimination and the promotion of equal opportunity in employment.  To ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness, both the content and implementation of this equal opportunities policy is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.  In addition we monitor the ethnic background of all our and report our statistics to the Management Committee. This information is primarily used to educate and inform the business.

The company’s selection criteria are constantly monitored to ensure that individuals are selected, promoted and treated on the basis of their relevant merits and abilities. All employees will be given equal opportunity and, where appropriate, training, to progress within the company. We are committed to a programme of action to make this policy fully effective. Above all we aim to be a flexible, family-friendly employer, welcoming applications from a broad cross-section of the community.

In order to communicate and promote our equal opportunities policy, we:

  • Ensure that all our employees are made aware of the provisions of the Equal Opportunities Policy and our obligations under the law by providing the relevant documents in an accessible location on our internal intranet system.
  • Include appropriate statements of policy in relevant contract documents.
  • Ensure that all staff involved in the recruitment, selection and support of staff are given training in the law as it relates to equality of opportunity and in the implementation of Watts’ policy.

Every employee is required to adhere to our policy and rules relating to equal opportunity.  Any breaches of the policy will be dealt with through the disciplinary procedure.  Serious offences such as harassment will be dealt with as gross misconduct.
